Church of
Agios Eleftherios
Standing in the shadow of the newer
and much larger cathedral, this tiny church is one of the finest of
the city’s Byzantine churches. Dating to the 12th century, it is
constructed primarily of large, ancient Pentelic marble blocks,
decorated on the exterior with bas-relief plaques, some of which date
to the 4th century BC.
